Let's talk about .... |
designing a brand, shall we? Here is the brutal truth. YOU MUST KNOW your market! Relying on a graphic designer to create your brand is a BAD IDEA! The chances of a graphic design to understand your company or you from the marketing perspective is probably 10% at best. I got a degree in graphic design. Marketing / Developing a brand was NOT in my curriculum.
Let's look at two logos. |
Amazon.comAmazon logo has four interesting features:
This logo tells us that this company has everything and their products will inspire / fascinate you.
|
Use color theory to identify what you are trying to convey to your customers.
Pick a font that is clean an easy to read. Open in Illustrator and modify it. As much as I am a Photoshop junkie, Illustrator works better for logo since it creates vector based artworks vs Photoshop's pixelbased.
Create symbolism to represent something about the roots of your company or your brand. Check out Versace for instance.
When you are done creating your masterpiece logo, flip it to black-n-white, resize it to much smaller dimensions similar to a clothes tag and print it. Can you see everything?
If yes, Congrads! |
Even though G. Versace was Italian. Yes, he could have used Roman symbolism, G. Versace used the Greek mythological symbol since the Greeks invented and created almost everything original but the Romans copied the Greek stuff and modified it.
